In Japan, the Center for Disaster Prevention studies the consequences of earthquakes and other seismic phenomena on the structure of buildings. Since the 1995 Kobe earthquake, specialized fire departments have been trained. Interviews with Dr KENICHI ABE, who talks about the nature of soils in Japan and the structure of houses, and then SHINYA NAKAGAKI, fire chief of Kobe, who talks about the importance of communication during a disaster.
