Guyana: shooting between Amerindian villagers and illegal gold miners

In French Guiana, two shootings in less than a week took place between Native American villagers and illegal gold miners, forcing teachers to leave their post. Maripasoula is the preferred region for gold seekers from Surinam and Brazil. The Amerindians protest against the looting they are witnessing and want the reopening of a gendarmerie station closed for ten years. Reaction of Tobie BALLA, mayor of Maripasoula who says that Guyana must remain a state of law.
