The History of Montluc Prison

Montluc’s prison in Lyon, built in 1921, was the place where thousands of people were interned and murdered during the period of the occupation. In cells of 1.77 meters by 2.30 meters, Jean Moulin, thousands of resistance fighters and Jews waited for interrogations, torture, execution or deportation. Currently 140 people are detained, mainly women and conscientious objectors in deplorable health conditions. This is where Klaus Barbie is being held on charges of crimes against humanity.
