The construction of banga is a rite of passage in the Mahoraise tradition. In Mayotte, where society is traditionally matriarchal, man will only own once in his life and these are these bangas, small houses made of cloth and thatched roofs, that they will live between their departure from the family home and their marriage to their wife’s home.
