Interrogé par plusieurs journalistes français, à l'occasion de son voyage en France, le Premier ministre canadien Pierre Eliott TRUDEAU exprime son opinion sur le Commonwealth, association réunissant 30 pays ayant en commun une même langue l'anglais et se réunissant en sommet. Il exprime sa volonté que les deux groupes linguistiques au Canada : le français et l'anglais soient égaux et a fait entrer à cet effet le Canada dans l'Agence de la Francophonie dont il attend beaucoup.
