Rudolf Nureyev: the reasons for his passage to the west
Questioned on stage by Hélène VIDA, Rudolf NUREYEV explains the reasons that prompted him, during a tour of the Kirov in Paris in May 1961, asked for political asylum. The Soviet authorities wanted to interrupt his tour and bring him back to the USSR. He explains that it is normal for an artist to want to travel and enrich his practice. His country’s distrust of him precipitated his decision not to return to Russia.
