Mechanization of timber exploitation

Mechanization of timber exploitation

In recent years, the exploitation of wood has undergone major transformations thanks to mechanization, which began in 1954 with the first power saws, continued in 1965 with the skidding carried out with articulated tractors, then with the ownership of semi-automatic processing chains. In the future, the sawmills will be run by a computer. Thanks to this mechanization, production has increased by 25% in five years, which does not, however, mean the death of small sawmills. Interview with Jean MICHAUT, President of the National Wood Federation, on the coexistence of small and large sawmills.
