En 1953, la reine Elizabeth II d'Angleterre, tout juste couronnée, assiste au derby d'Epsom, célèbre course hippique dans laquelle "Aureole", un de ses chevaux, est engagé. Elle serre la main du jockey Gordon Richards, qu'elle vient d'anoblir. Le cheval de la reine termine à la deuxième place derrière celui de Gordon Richards.
