Lucien Bodard and the character of Alex
The writer and journalist Lucien Bodard expresses his fascination for the character of Alex, main character of Stanley Kubrick’s film, "Orange mécanique". He loves this character, because he has no limits, that’s the beauty of cinema, in a cinema, one can clear his insconcient, the strangeness is that Alex who does evil is a sympathetic being like Richard III. He suffers for Alex, when he is deprived of his freedom and personality. He asked Stanley Kubrick in his village in England about the violence he preached in the film. Kubrick replied, that he only makes images and visions, heroes. In normal life, he thinks that there must be a balance between progress and the living conditions of men, there must be a balance between freedom and social structure, his talent as an artist is to escape from it in an extraordinary way, he built a nightmare but his house is not a nightmare, for Kubrick, violence is only an artistic work
