Since the previous Formula 1 World Championship, a conflict has arisen between Alain Prost and Ayrton Senna. In 1989, at the last grand prix of the championship in Brazil, Senna, after a foul, was disqualified in favor of Prost, who became world champion. Interviewed about his relationship with Senna, Alain Prost, who went to Phoenix to meet Senna to relax the atmosphere explains: "...voilà, we start a new championship, we will try to fight in the best sportsmanship and good Ayrton refused to shake my hand...".
