European judges warn against tax evasion and money laundering
On 1 October 1996, at a Swiss university, seven leading European judges launching the Geneva Appeal held a press conference. These anti-corruption figures warned about their powerlessness in the face of banking secrecy, the slowness of procedures against globalized financial circuits. Excerpt from the statement made by Renaud Van Ruymbeke, advisor to the Court of Appeal of Rennes, who expressed his concern for the future by stressing the impossibility to trace the origin of these illicit funds, Nor is it possible to guess the destination of this money injected into national economies.
