57ème minute : suite à une faute sur Bernard Lacombe, l'arbitre accorde aux Français un coup franc très bien placé. Le gardien de but espagnol, Luis Arconada, se trouve sur la trajectoire du tir de Michel Platini, il "arrête" la balle, mais la laisse ensuite passer sous son ventre, offrant l'ouverture du score au capitaine français (1-0). Cette grossière erreur du gardien passera malheureusement pour lui à la postérité sous l'expression "faire une Arconada"...
