Floods in Gironde in 1981: disaster stories

In January 1981, a few days after the floods caused by the flood of the Garonne river, disaster victims from the small town of La Réole testify. A couple of elderly people tell how they escaped by making a hole in their roof: "at 8 o'clock in the evening there was no water in the kitchen, at 9 o'clock there was a meter". A man explains that he made his children leave home in the middle of the night when he realized they were going to be flooded. The victims underline that the authorities have either not taken the measure of the scale of the phenomenon, or have warned too late...
