Barthélémy, a student of letters who stays in a maid’s room under the roofs of Paris, tells how he succeeded thanks to relations, to find this accommodation near the Latin Quarter where he studied. He describes the disadvantages of this room: the soot that comes in, the lack of heating in the winter, the excess heat in the summer. On the other hand, he enjoys living with neighbours who are not students.
