Oil represents a huge economic potential in Ecuador but it is foreign companies (mainly American) that exploit its wealth. The President of the Republic of Ecuador, José María VELASCO IBARRA, spoke in French about his desire to give back to the Ecuadorian people some of this wealth: "It is necessary that this oil has some permanent compensations for the people..."
