In a context where Ecuador lives essentially from the monoculture of the banana and must develop its industry, the President of the Republic of Ecuador, José Maria VELASCO IBARRA expresses his desire to return power to the people: "Ecuador at the moment is in a movement of progress and economic and intellectual development. We now have the people as the first force for political leadership. Previously, it was governments and the party that had the leadership— Today, it is the sovereign people, it is the desires of the people, it is the sufferings of the people that have the primacy of the direction of politics."
