Edouard Glissant: chestnut is a cultural way of being

The West Indian poet and writer Edouard GLISSANT returns to the phenomenon of brown swimming during the period of slavery which is for him "a cultural mode of being". In all West Indies there is the part of the West Indies that accepts and that which is brown. And this phenomenon of cultural marooning characterizes the production of Caribbean and Caribbean writers, regardless of the language in which they write.
