On historical re-enactment images, this document explains the origin of the Thanksgiving celebration. This dates back to 1620 when the first English settlers arrived on the east coast of the United States. When the Plymouth colony was founded, the settlers decided on a day of thanksgiving and made a pact of friendship with the Indian chief of Cape Cod. It is in memory of this time that Americans celebrate Thanksgiving.
