Interviewé dans une voiture, en habit d'académicien, Maurice Genevoix évoque sa réaction lors de son élection à l'Académie française en 1946 : "Quand j'ai été élu, ma femme m'a dit, c'est tout l'effet que ça te fait ?... En réalité, j'étais content mais c'est pas la peine d’extérioriser, si j'avais dansé une espèce de danse triomphale, j'aurais eu bonne mine... J'étais une sorte de cambrousard, je vivais à l'écart de Paris et des milieux littéraires, mais certains académiciens avaient fortuitement lu mes livres et trouvaient que je faisais le poids..."
