On the occasion of the signing of the Franco-German Treaty of Friendship and Cooperation, known as the Elysée Treaty, President Charles DE GAULLE speaks: "The crucial importance of this act... Not only because it turns the page after such a long and bloody history of struggles and fights... But also because it opens wide the doors of a new future for Germany, France, and Europe, and therefore for the world". It is followed by the German Chancellor (in German, without translation).
