Brasilia: street scenes and interview of a French national

For the first anniversary of BRASILIA, reporters from "Five Headlines" visited the new federal capital of Brazil inaugurated on 21 April 1960 by the President of the Republic Juscelino Kubitshek. Brasilia, a completely new city situated on a desert plateau at 1200 m above sea level, was built on the edge of an artificial lake by planner Lucio Costa and architect Oscar Niemeyer. Comments on city views: buildings, a cinema, a small church, a café terrace, the only shopping street with a newspaper stand, a Franco-Brazilian bank, a French restaurant. Interview of a French grocer, who arrived at the time when "it was still the Wild West" and who firmly believes in the future of this city.
