On his official visit to Paris, Mikhail GORBATCHEV was received at the Sorbonne where he gave his conception of Europe ("Atlantic Europe to the Urals"). He also held a press conference at the Elysée with François MITTERRAND: "I read in the press "The days of Gorbachev are numbered" - to which F. MITTERRAND replies: "Our days are numbered anyway. The problem is that we don’t know what the number is."
