Signing of the Sino-British Joint Declaration

Signing of the Sino-British Joint Declaration

After a first agreement last June, China and Great Britain signed the joint Sino-British declaration on the Hong Kong question in Beijing. This international treaty commits England to hand over the entire colony to China in 1997. The current social and economic regime will remain in place for 50 years. The commentary on images of the signature by Margaret THATCHER and ZHAO ZIYANG, who then toast with Deng XIOPING, is followed by a statement by Margaret THATCHER.
