Veterans Stories at Omaha Beach

Veterans explain how they experienced the moment when the landing barge ramps were opened. It was like opening the door to jump into the storm. The equipment was very heavy and very cumbersome. Joseph J. BLATNICK, a veteran sergeant, in a military suit during the interview, told his men to move forward and, above all, not get bogged down on the beach. Aerial views of Omaha Beach: "We could hear the bullets raining on the barge ramps... We knew that when the ramps were going down, we would have to go, we had no choice.../we have to go ahead and face the enemy or we have no chance of getting away..."
