Charles de Gaulle "The sweetness of oil lamps"

In a speech at the Elysée Palace on 14/06/1960, General De Gaulle, in reference to the decolonization process, pronounced one of his famous "little sentences": "It is only natural that we feel nostalgia for what was once the Empire, just as we can regret the softness of the oil lamps, the splendour of the sailing navy, the charm of the crews' time. But what?! There is no policy that works outside reality".
