Massoud interview on military situation in his country
Interview of MASSOUD granted to a journalist. Massoud is in its lost headquarters in a valley perpendicular to that of the Panshir, the valley of Parende. Massoud reviews the military situation at the end of 1996: "Last winter I fought the Taliban in the province of BADGHIS (north-west of the country) and in the village of CHIBIRE (in the Panshir, north-east of the country). In the rest of Afghanistan it was quiet because it was very cold. In the mountains of Parvan and Kapisa, there have been some attacks, as you are already aware. We drove the Taliban out of BADGHIS, so they didn’t succeed there. Our forces pushed them back very far. They had many deaths. The Taliban did not win, we moved forward, and they lost ground. In CHIBIRE, the Taliban attacked strongly but the group of KHALILI (leader of one of the Hazara groups) counterattacked and resisted very strongly, the Taliban did not take any ground (end 1st tape at 01:02:35)
