On 26 March in Algiers, a shooting attack took place during a demonstration by French civilians and unarmed in favour of French Algeria. The death toll was 80 and 200 wounded (49 dead and 150 wounded, according to the journalist’s comments at the time...). Two days later, Christian Fouchet, High Commissioner of France, addressed the "French of Algiers".
