The mayor of Sevran, Stéphane GATIGNON, disgusted by the lack of resources allocated by the State for his city, resigned. He had become the voice of the elected representatives of the suburbs. In 2012, he went on a hunger strike to obtain funding for disadvantaged communities. For him, "the people in the ministries do not understand the suburbs ... they do not understand that this is where the future is made". It is supported by a number of elected officials. Clementine AUTAIN (LFI Municipal Councillor in Sevran) said: "I share the anger he expressed towards a state, a government that despises the suburbs". His colleague Bruno BESCHIZZA (Mayor LR of Aulnay-sous-Bois) says he understands his colleague’s action and also deplores the State’s inaction on the ground: "I believe that colleagues are tired of taking their heads in the fields against their fellow citizens, while the fault and the means are the responsibility of the State".
