In 1939, Albert EINSTEIN confirmed the possibility of making an atomic bomb and informed Franklin D. ROOSEVELT, President of the United States. The physicist Robert OPPENHEIMER is in charge of overseeing the work of the "Manhattan Project" within the complex built in Oak Ridge, Tennessee.
On July 16, 1945, the United States carried out the first test of an atomic bomb, Trinity, the same one that was to be used a few weeks later, in Hiroshima and Nagasaki. Robert OPPENHEIMER, creator of the A-bomb, riddled with guilt, declared: "I have become death, the destroyer of the worlds".
