In 1998, the Majority prepared for the battle of regional elections. The "Plural Left" meets at the Maison de l'Amérique latine in Paris. All representatives (PC, PS, Greens, Radicals, Citizens' Movement) want to display a union found in a pluralistic majority whose interests are difficult to combine. Robert HUE, national secretary of the PCF declares it "the majority pluirelle: for me the two terms are absolutely inseparable". Yves COCHET emphasises the dissatisfaction of his Greens party but reaffirms his support for the government. Finally for François HOLLANDE, first secretary of the PS, "the majority logic prevailed without the plural disappearing".
