Children’s books
As the Youth Book Fair is held in Montreuil, publishers are reaching a younger and younger audience. The commentary alternates factual images of a 9-month-old infant holding a book in his hands, from a children’s book whose corners of the pages are rounded. Succession of three interviews: Thierry COURTIN, illustrator: "must be complicit with the children, be close to their universe all in roundness, all in tenderness. [...] For older children, we can do more aggressive, more acute things"; Marie-Hélène DELEVAL, Director "Popi": "even with a simple text, we try to find a rhythm, a sound pleasure that the adult will enjoy telling the child and the child will enjoy repeating. It advances the language"; Marie-Claire BRULEY, Professor of Children’s Literature: "Some adults may feel quite anxious and want to use images and words too soon for children to learn to read and write as soon as possible. It is a deviance".
