Since two days, Guadeloupe is agitated by major social unrest. The Guadeloupean independence organizations demonstrated today to support Georges Faisans sentenced to three years in prison and imprisoned in the Paris region of Fresnes where he has been on hunger strike for more than fifty days. Justice has condemned him for molesting a teacher who himself beat and insulted a black student. Roads, bridges are blocked, shops are closed, cars have been set on fire. The prefect of Guadeloupe asked for reinforcements with the arrival of two hundred mobile guards from mainland France.
