The Atlantic TGV: 10 years of success

On 30 September 1990, the southwest section of the TGV Atlantique carried its first passengers between Paris and Bordeaux. This faster mode of transport was a great success with 1.6 million passengers in 1991 and 2.4 million at the end of 1999. The market share of the train compared to the plane is 60% for Gironde, 52% for the Basque coast and 34% for Béarn. In 10 years, the offer has gone from 17 to 24 round trips to Paris, Lille and Brussels, and a fifth round trip between Bordeaux and Lille will be created on 3 December 2000.
