On October 28, 1922, black shirts, supporters of Benito Mussolini, from all over Italy, march on Rome. Upon his arrival in Rome, Benito Mussolini, surrounded by Italo Balbo and General Emilio de Bono, seized power over the rubble of the previous regime, which was beset by a serious social crisis. On the occasion of the 20th anniversary of the march on Rome, in 1942, the fascist militias met on the Via del Mare, connecting the capitol to the port of Ostia. The Duce decorated volunteers of the Mussolini battalions, returning from the front.
