Alfortville, the second largest Armenian community in France
The Armenian community of Alfortville, with 8,000 inhabitants, is one of the liveliest in Ile de France and the second largest after Marseille. It was formed in the early 20th century around a core of refugees who had fled Ottoman persecution. The Armenians of Alfortville have their church, cultural and sports associations, streets that bear the name of their heroes and places where they like to meet, such as the Philippe café.
