Presidential election: not enough sponsorships for a small candidate

In Puy-de-Dôme, Jean Pierre Upellini, an unemployed tile maker, wants to run in the 1995 presidential election. Unknown, he collected only 30 sponsorships of elected officials out of the 500 necessary for the validation of his candidacy by the Constitutional Council. He admits to having underestimated the task but plans to stand in Issoire’s municipal election to defend his political program. Interviews with two of his supporters.
