Attempt by the French Muslim community to reach an agreement
After the Islamic veils affair or the Salman Rushdie affair, part of the French Muslim community today feels the need to put an end to its divisions in order to set up a committee capable of speaking with one voice with the government. In this context, two meetings are being held simultaneously this weekend in Lyon. One concerns the States General of the French Muslim returnees, chaired by Kamel Kabtane, which raises the difficulty of finding an agreement in view of the number and diversity of associations spread throughout the territory. The National Federation of French Returnees of Islamic Confession, meanwhile, gathered around its president, Hachemi BOUNINI, for whom the States General are not representative of the French Muslim community and denounces a politically directed operation.
