En 1975, Albert Uderzo et René Goscinny évoquaient la genèse de leurs personnages principaux, Astérix et Obélix. Albert Uderzo voyait Astérix "grand, blond et costaud". René Goscinny réussit à le convaincre d'adopter le physique d'un anti-héros, "petit et drôle". Uderzo créa alors un personnage en complément, fort et grand, et qui allait devenir Obélix, le meilleur compagnon d'Astérix.
