Tenzin Gyatso, born Lhamo Dhondup on July 6, 1935 in Taktser, Qinghai Province, is the 14th Dalai Lama. A symbol of resistance to the Chinese communist regime, he was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize for his dedication to resolving the Sino-Tibetan conflict through non-violence.
