The colloquium "Etre citoyen" was held in Paris at the Economic and Social Council. Prime Minister Laurent Fabius delivered the closing speech. Excerpt from the speech where the Prime Minister says what it means to be a citizen: "The French have real assets provided they believe in themselves and in their country. This is what it means to be a citizen".
Interviewed, Guy THIERRY, lawyer at the bar of Dijon, explains what citizenship is: "...you find in the [republican] arsenal synonyms that are given to citizenship, indeed civility, civility, etc. But the reality of the definition of citizenship is not this one; it is said that human rights are freedoms and the rights of citizens are powers".
In Lille a symposium is organized to reflect on the notion of citizenship. On the occasion of a micro-sidewalk, passers-by give a definition of the citizen. In a classroom a young student explains what a French citizen is: "To be, how to say, a French citizen, to be French, is not necessarily to be French but to have made war".
